Restoring a Vintage Motorcycle

My personal passion project of rebuilding a vintage Yamaha SR400 from 1983 into a traditional Cafe Racer

problem

I took on the challenge of restoring a vintage motorcycle as a personal project to build one of my dreams and deepen my hands-on problem-solving skills. The project involved bringing an old machine back to life — requiring research, mechanical work, troubleshooting, and a lot of trial & error. The goal was not just to restore the motorcycle, but to understand and to build something real.

solution

The final result was a fully restored and functioning vintage motorcycle, rebuilt through self-directed learning and hands-on mechanical work. The project required research, precision, and persistence, combining technical understanding with practical execution. And... It still works!

responsibility

I completed the project end-to-end, from sourcing parts and diagnosing mechanical issues to rebuilding components and final assembly. I primarily used YouTube to learn new skills, troubleshoot unexpected failures, and prepare the motorcycle for its final roadworthiness test, ensuring it was safe and fully functional.

The café racer was born from a long-held dream of owning a vintage motorcycle, inspired by early Pinterest images of enthusiasts riding from café to café in classic helmets and tailored suits.

Process & Story

The project unfolded as a self-driven learning journey, starting with assessing the motorcycle’s condition and identifying major mechanical challenges. From there, I sourced parts, rebuilt components, and iteratively tested the bike, troubleshooting issues as they emerged.

Like building a product from scratch, the process involved research, cycles of learning, experimentation, and refinement — with each step bringing the system closer to working as a whole. This project reinforced the mindset I bring to product design: curiosity, systems thinking, and a willingness to get hands-on to make things work.

What kind of designer am I?

I’m a product and growth designer who builds real products that drive real business outcomes. I work end-to-end across strategy, UX, UI, and delivery, with a strong focus on growth, conversion, and execution.

What roles am I looking for?

Senior Product Designer, Growth Designer, or Design Lead roles where design is close to product, business, and execution.

What industries have I worked in?

Fintech, climate tech, enterprise innovation, B2B SaaS, marketplaces, and consumer apps across both startups and Fortune 500 companies.

Do I launch to production?

I have designed, built, and launched production web, Android, and iOS products using no-code tools and AI-powered development workflows. I’ve shipped live growth platforms, marketplaces, and mobile apps, and I’m currently deepening my engineering skills using tools like Claude Code and Cursor to move even faster from idea to production.

What more can I do?

If you’d like to go deeper into any of my work or learn more about how I think and build, I’d be glad to have a conversation. Let’s connect and explore whether there’s a good fit :)
